Ms. Ummi Mohammed Bashir Principal Secretary- State Department for Culture and Heritage
Ms. Bashir was appointed the Principal Secretary of State Department for Culture and Heritage under the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife on 3rd December 2022. She holds a Master’s of Arts in Armed Conflict and Peace Studies from Zanzibar University (2018) and a Bachelor of Law and Shariah (2009). Previously she served as the vice chairperson of the national elections board of United Democratic Alliance Party's and resigned in October 2022.
Prior to that, she worked with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF) program and UNDP as the executive advisor to the country director from December 2012 to October 2013. PS Bashir, is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over 10 years' experience post admission, a Commissioner for Oaths and Notary Public and a member of, Law Society of Kenya and the East Africa Law Society. Her areas of practice include corporate governance, public law, constitutional law, election petitions, commercial transactions and commercial Litigation, intellectual property.
